Joe Caccavella sr’s top five chicago restaurants:

"People always ask me where I liked to eat over the years. Chicago has changed a lot, but these are five places that always stood out to me."

Como Inn - Chicago
"Como Inn was one of those classic old-school Italian restaurants. Big portions, red sauce, steaks, seafood, and a supper club atmosphere that made you feel like you were out for a special occasion. It was a Chicago institution for decades."

Sabatino's - Chicago
"Sabatino's was another favorite. If you grew up in Chicago and liked Italian food, you probably knew Sabatino's. Great pasta, great service, and a place where families celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and everything in between. It always felt like Chicago to me."

Cafe Lucci - Glenview, IL
"Cafe Lucci in Glenview was a little more refined, but still comfortable. Outstanding Italian food, fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and a great wine list. Every meal there felt like it was made with care."

Minelli's Meat & Deli - Niles, IL
"Minelli's in Niles wasn't fancy, but that's exactly why I liked it. Great Italian deli sandwiches, homemade sausage, imported groceries, and people behind the counter who knew their customers. Places like that are getting harder to find."

La Scarola - Chicago
"La Scarola has always been one of my favorites. Great Italian food, generous portions, and walls covered with photos that tell the story of Chicago. Every time you walk in, it feels like you're part of the family."

"Chicago has a lot of great restaurants, but these are the places that stuck with me over the years. Good food, good people, and memories you don't forget."
